标题: Modeling the mass transfer and phase transition of Sn-Sb positive electrode in a liquid metal battery

摘要: Liquid metal batteries (LMBs) are considered as a potential solution for large-scale energy storage. The complicated mass transfer and liquid-solid transition process at the liquid positive electrode/liquid molten salt interface have not been well understood. Herein we propose a two-step model to simulate the mass transfer and liquid-solid transition process of the positive Sn-Sb electrode in the Li||Sn-Sb battery. Firstly, the one dimensional electrochemical (1D-EC) model is used to study the constant flux and simulate the distribution of Li in liquid Li-Sn-Sb alloy. Secondly, when a solid intermetallic film forms on the top of liquid Sn-Sb, constant concentration diffusion (CCD) model is used to study the growth rate of solid Li3Sb. In the full liquid region of Li-Sn-Sb, the experimental discharge curve matches well with the simulated curve. Using the established model, we can predict the starting point of solid intermetallic layer. Overall, 1D-EC and CCD models are a promising tool for engineering and diagnosing LMBs.
